As Long Beach's favorite community news source, we cover events, government, business, education and neighborhood issues. Combined, our three weekly publications, the Grunion, Downtown and Uptown, have a weekly circulation of more than 60,000. Gazette Newspapers was born in 1978 as a small weekly for the Belmont Shore neighborhood called the Grunion Gazette. Fran and John Blowitz bought the paper in 1981 and built it into the dominant information source for east Long Beach. In 1988, they started the companion Downtown Gazette. In January 2004, the Blowitzes sold the Gazettes to MediaNews, the national newspaper powerhouse that also owns the Los Angeles Daily News, the Denver Post and more than 200 other publications. Owner Dean Singleton told the staff that the papers would remain independent, and they have. In recent years, Gazette Newspapers has worked to develop a strong social media and web presence. Be our fan on Facebook, Twitter follower and regular visitor at www.Gazettes.com to support your favorite community newspapers.
